Funny, I don’t remember that. I wish we could go back and find all the the people that were warning us correctly of what was going to happen. I remember Schumer and Pelosi doing photo ops in Chinatown. Once the pandemic hit, I remember daily press conferences at the white house with the long time public health officials. I remember ventilators, warp speed, ramping up testing etc. Maybe in hindsight the response could have been better here and there but that’s HINDSIGHT. Will there be books coming out about Biden’s response to the Indian Delta Variant? Why aren’t the Democrats going out to Indian neighborhoods and motels to fight racist attacks on America’s Indian poplulation?

@jsynapses if it worked like that, the rest of the world would be holding America accountable for swine flu. But that didn’t happen, because most sane people are able to acknowledge that holding a grudge over a viral mutation would be ridiculously petty.
The venn diagram of Trump supporters, anti-vaxers, covid deniers, and people who care more about themselves than anyone else’s wellbeing is practically a circle. Those people are definitely more dangerous than the disease.

Jack, at the time trump was receiving information (according to him) that the virus broke out from a lab. It was not a natural occurring event. If that was true then China should have been held accountable. That info was disregarded by the press and social media banned people from spreading that rumor. I am no expert but I am seeing a new consensus appear.

researchers at the Wuhan lab had been studying a bat coronavirus known as RaTG13 since ‘at least 2016′.
“The RaTG13 strain was identified by the Wuhan lab as its genetically closest sample to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, at 96.2 percent similarity.
The State Department said that the Wuhan lab obtained RaTG13 in a sample from a cave in Yunnan Province in 2013, after several miners there died of SARS-like illness.”
That’s filled with science. Science is good.

Didn’t Blinken say that the inquest into the plausibility of the Wuhan lab theory was conducted by a few individuals contracted by the Trump administration to question the CDC’s investigations? While not impossible, that does smack of a degree of bias.
It was far more convenient politically for Trump to shift focus onto China in order to distract from his own handling of the pandemic. It’s an approach very much fitting his modus operandi, and wouldn’t be the first conspiracy he’d encouraged people to believe.

Thats probably because it just went away, one day it was here and the next gone…..just like that. the trump dynasty was left a handbook on how to deal with like situations, not a cure but a step by step response to an outbreak. I’m reasonably sure the j stands for jangled. “What politician got it right at the time?”. Certainly not the one in charge of our response. Certainly not the one who hid his head in the sand and optimistically told us it would all go away soon. Certainly not the one who let 400,000 people die needlessly and lost an election in a landslide as a result. Not the one who cared more about trying to overturn an election he lost than getting people vaccinate. Not Trump. Never Trump.

Did the origin of the virus really make any difference once it had spread. The people of the US didn’t elect China’ Premier.
We elected the U.S. President. And that President betrayed the trust of the people of the U.S. Then he betrayed the Constitution through use of deceit in an effort to overturn a free and open election.
The Roepublican response is to see that future electrons are signficantly less fee and open, while repeating the lies of their Great Leader.

Did anyone really elect the Chinese premier? Those ideological regimes aren’t really partial to free & fair & open - quite apart from universal suffrage, which they think is “a bit much” on the hole. Came for the comments and they have not disappointed. As I am European, despite the many failures made by countries both in the EU and the UK (The Scandinavians having unsurprisingly seemed to do a decent job)it was beyond incredulous to see how a global health crises was treated as such by all, the exception being the US who managed to turn the whole thing into a partisan issue from the get. Although disgusting, I suppose it is unsurprising coming from the one country that considers health and well-being a commodity as opposed to the rest of the world who recognise that it is a fundamental right in any civilised society that can afford it and / or is not crippled by US sanctions such as Cuba or Iran.
Decent book as well by the way.
