What explains our attitudes towards the environment? Why do so many climate change initiatives fail? How can we do more to prevent humans damaging the environment?
The Psychology of Climate Change explores the evidence for our changing environment, and suggests that there are significant cognitive biases in how we think about, and act on climate change. The authors examine how organisations have attempted to mobilise the public in the fight against climate change, but these initiatives have often failed due to the public’s unwillingness to adapt their behaviour. The book also explores why some people deny climate change altogether, and the influence that these climate change deniers can have on global action to mitigate further damage.
By analysing our attitudes to the environment, The Psychology of Climate Change argues that we must think differently about climate change to protect our planet, as a matter of great urgency.

Yeah, I wonder why do the plebs that make a minuscule carbon footprint not want to bend to our authoritarian will when the vast majority of climate change is done by companies and countries that don’t care about the environment? Let’s try to trick them with psychological manipulation and guilt!

@Maxcool So, the corporations can continue to burn the world for profit, since you have let them define mitigating climate change as culture war against you. The Koch Brothers and Exxon, etc. spent a billion dollars funding “think tanks”, creating astroturf groups and conservative politicians who would prevent any action, and they got their money’s worth. Fifty years of inaction and stonewalling and only now are governments even thinking about actually doing anything. Still, most are just waffling and kicking the can down the road for their children to handle in 2050.

@Gweilo Liberals have made it into a culture war with their chicken little hysteria. People have every right to be suspicious of the claims made about climate change. Academia is compromised. So is the media. It’s hard to get straight facts because of the bias surrounding the issue. I’ve never heard one conservative say they don’t care about the environment. It’s a trust issue.

I think this book is miscategorized under “science”…

@knglerxst: you demonstrate the problem exactly. You’re one who drank the Koch Brother’s Kool Aid.
“I’ve never heard one conservative say they don’t care about the environment.” Of course they don’t SAY that. But their actions, and inactions, prove the opposite.

In the 1980’s we used to make fun of this crazy jesus guy on the streets of Vancouver who always yelled ‘the end is near’. Now the end or a min 90% + human die-back IS near. It’ll be the relentless hammering of agriculture production. It’s already begun. Living in N America where mega food is grown means you get to suffer longer.
