Sure. The latest techno revolution.
When nuke power was being pushed the hype slogan was, “too cheap to meter” & we were going to use that almost free energy to power our flying cars (any day now).
In the 90’s the hype said the Human Genome Project was the next ‘Revolution’ & all the experts failed in their predictions of how many genes humans have. Turns out corn has 12000 more genes than humans do & so do many other species (POP went the bubble). Of course this time it’s different. This time it’s for real.
The thing that really makes humans unique is their bottomless memory hole. No matter how many of these hopey hyped techno predictions prove wrong (tens of thousands in my lifetime) their appetite & enthusiasm for them springs eternal.
The masses will uncritically swallow anything as long as it’s Hope flavoured.
Perhaps epigenetics will lead to a treatment that’ll stop the better part of society from eating itself to death & overburdening the health care system with decades of chronic conditions before they kick.
