The Rabbi’s Brain: Mystics, Moderns and the Science of Jewish Thinking - Andrew B. Newberg, David Halpern Audiobook
Shared by:hdgdf
The topic of “Neurotheology” has garnered increasing attention in the academic, religious, scientific, and popular worlds. However, there have been no attempts at exploring more specifically how Jewish religious thought and experience may intersect with neurotheology. The Rabbi’s Brain engages this groundbreaking area. Topics included relate to a neurotheological approach to the foundational beliefs that arise from the Torah and associated scriptures, Jewish learning, an exploration of the different elements of Judaism (i.e. reform, conservative, and orthodox), an exploration of specifically Jewish practices (i.e. Davening, Sabbath, Kosher), and a review of Jewish mysticism. The Rabbi’s Brain engages these topics in an easy to read style and integrates the scientific, religious, philosophical, and theological aspects of the emerging field of neurotheology. By reviewing the concepts in a stepwise, simple, yet thorough discussion, readers regardless of their background, will be able to understand the complexities and breadth of neurotheology from the Jewish perspective. More broadly, issues will include a review of the neurosciences and neuroscientific techniques; religious and spiritual experiences; theological development and analysis; liturgy and ritual; epistemology, philosophy, and ethics; and social implications, all from the Jewish perspective.

Good stuff, hdgdf, thx again.
The nazis above don’t trouble themselves with books, unless they’re incinerating them.
“Jews…always put themselves in bad situations over & over” - The same brainless “thinking” that blames the rape victim for being raped.

I hope that after I listen to this I can understand Metitzeh B’pah, because right now, I have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to do such a thing.

Hello Cheezer,
Some religious authorities consider direct oral suctioning the only acceptable way to draw blood away from the circumcision cut. But other religious authorities within the Jewish faith approve different means. For example, sometimes a glass tube or a glass tube attached to a rubber bulb is used to suction blood in a way that does not include contact between the mohel’s mouth and the baby’s cut. Others use a sponge or a sterile gauze pad to suction blood. In contrast to direct oral suctioning, there is no evidence that any of these other practices cause HSV-1 infection.
Rabbi Moshe Morsiano, chair of the Division of Circumcision for the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, said that there is no justification for avoiding metzitzah b’peh “unless the mohel has a sore in his mouth, or some infectious disease.”
Metzitzah b’peh has come under fire by many Jewish groups, including Modern Orthodox associations, due to the possible spread of infections that can be fatal to an infant. Opponents recommend the use of a glass pipette in place of direct oral suction.
In New York, at least 11 boys contracted herpes from the practice between 2004 and 2011, according to New York City health officials. Two died from the virus and two others suffered brain damage. The board of health voted 9-0 to require those performing metzitzah b’peh to obtain signed consent forms from parents.
Germany adopted a new law regulating ritual circumcision. The law requires that the procedure be done to the highest possible medical standards.
