I say this as someone who has worked in tech for decades. Technology has made life demonstrably worse and the rate of decline is accelerating as a result of social media. 25 years ago, people were staunchly against spying and were quite protective of personal information. Now people install microphones in their homes and blindly give their details to companies, who have it stolen in data breaches over and over again.

lisiva5995, indeed. People were shocked at the future laid out in 1984; how could any civilisation devolve into allowing their every move be monitored and recorded? When the technology came, the populace not only invited it into their homes, they embraced it and welcomed it into every facet of their life.
