Thank you, griffiths. I read this when it was printed in the New Yorker 20-odd years ago, and I was thinking of asking my library to find a copy of the hardcover when I stumbled across your very welcome upload. And I’m pleased you offer it in pdf format - it’s always nice to be able to go over a bit I might have failed to understand when listening.
