A vibrant cultural history investigating the tangled and complex history of pandemics and vaccines, by bestselling author and historian Simon Schama
With the devastating effects of Covid-19 still rattling the foundations of our global civilization, we live in unprecedented times - or so we might think. But pandemics have been a constant presence throughout human history, as humans and disease have lived side by side for millennia. Over the centuries, our ability to react to these sweeping killers has evolved, most notably through the development of vaccines.
The story of disease eradication, however, has never been one of simply science - it is political, cultural, and deeply personal. Ranging across continents and centuries, acclaimed historian Simon Schama unpacks the stories of the often-unknown individuals whose pioneering work changed the face of modern healthcare. Questioning why the occurrence of pandemics appears to be accelerating at an alarming rate, Schama looks into our impact on the natural world, and how that in turn is affecting us, all while interrogating how geopolitics has had a devastating effect on global health.
Inspirational and tragic by turns, these are stories of success and failure, of collaboration and of persecution, as humanity struggles to work together in the face of one of our most deadly shared enemies: the pandemic.

This book covers everything except the principal cause of pandemics: How pharmakopia or modern day sorcery, is THE definition of quackery, fraud and abuse. From the countless massive criminal fines imposed to these Ted bundy pharma cartels, to the millions who die from side-effects of pharma drugs, its likely the absolute worst cult you could make, but nevertheless, countless millions of mindless sheep prefer to go to slaughter, than question their beloved demigod.

“the principal cause of pandemics” - Yeah, I think pandemics existed a good deal prior to magic, arse-emanated con theories & all the Ted Bundy pharmacists at large in society.
And then here we are, more of us than ever before; living longer than ever before.
Consequently, more mindless sheep, ensorcelled by arse-emanated, internet con theories of doom.

I love Simon Schama & all Jews & I love vaccines.
According to privateero & his fellow anti vaxx rage brothers there should be billions dead from evil vax juice. Where’s the bodies? In your imagination.
Anti-vaxxers were WRONG WRONG WRONG. Not 1 of your stupid prediction happened, yet I keep hearing ‘just you wait N see. Losers. None of your hysterical predictions happened - that makes y’all losers to a man.
.
“As of 30 April 2023, 13.38 billion doses of COVID‑19 vaccines have been administered worldwide based on official reports from national public health agencies.”
“According to a June 2022 study, COVID‑19 vaccines prevented an additional 14.4 to 19.8 million deaths in 185 countries and territories from 8 December 2020 to 8 December 2021.”

I’ve known brain washed sheep like privateero. You probably know a few yourself. They’ve gotten their medical degrees on Facebook. The goofball probably can’t even count the number of times antibiotics have saved his life, to give but one example that demolishes his entire tiny brained thesis.

I’ll interpret the anti-vax hate as a recommendation for this book. It looks like it’ll have more subtilty and wisdom than the blunt mind of conspiracy theorists can handle.
But it’s not worth arguing with them. Just seed.

Opportunistic publishing that verges on propaganda. As a historian of science, I would highly recommend avoiding any work on the topic of vaccination that was published during or post covid.

Giving it a try.
